Selecting Photos
What if my photograph is damaged or not of the highest quality?
Please use our free consultation service and email us the photo before you submit an order. One of our artists will review the photo and let you know if it is suitable.
What file format should my photograph be in?
The preferred file type for uploading your photos is JPEG.
I have an image file type not supported by your uploader. What do I do?
Please email us the photograph if you are unsure of its suitability.
How do I select the right photograph?
For paintings it is enough if the quality of the photo allows the artist to clearly see the details of your photo - but here are a few tips on what you should look for:
1. Send photos that flatter the photographed person. If you don't like the way you look in the photo, if you think that your smile doesn't look real, or your nose looks too big, try to pick another photo. Don't expect the artists to make the person look much better than he looks in the photo.
2. Try to send photos with the highest resolution. If your photo is less than 100 KB size, its resolution may be too low and our artists may have difficulties in making a good painting from a photo which doesn't clearly show details. We require all photos to be clear enough so that our artists can zoom in on the finer details of the face, particularly the eyes, nose and mouth. If these areas are blurry or pixilated, it will make it difficult for our artists to create a realistic portrait for you.
3. Pay attention to the background. You have a beautiful photo of your little boy for example, but the background is filled with details that will detract from the painted portrait. In such a case, you can tell our artists to use a one color background of any color you choose or simply let the artist decide. Just mention it in the comments box, right after you upload the image.
4. If your photo was taken on a digital camera, be sure to send us the original file from the camera itself but not a re-sized version.
5. If you are scanning a hard copy of a photo, be sure that your scanner's settings are set at the highest quality/resolution possible. Please be aware that social media sites, such as Facebook, shrink your photos as they are uploaded, so it is extremely important that photos taken from a social media site are clear.
6. If you are not sure whether your photo is clear enough for our artists, please email us your photo at info@thecanvastalk.com for a free consultation. After you place an order, we will notify you if we require a better quality photo before beginning your artwork.
Can I make special requests for the photo editing?
Yes, you can. During the order process you will find a comments box, where you will be able to explain what your special requests are. We can combine figures from different photos into one painting, change the background, eliminate or add figures and objects and create color paintings from black and white photos.
Please provide as much details as possible (like: "The dress should be Pink and the eyes should be Blue").
Can you combine images from more than one photograph into a single image?
Yes, we can. You can upload or send several photographs via email and have subjects from each photo placed together into a single painting. Simply give us detailed instructions when placing your order, by using the comments text box.
Ordering
Which is the best medium for my photo?
We feel this is a matter of personal taste. This is why we suggest that you browse the internet and check out the differences between the various mediums that we offer. The most popular mediums among our customers are Oil and Charcoal.
If you do not have the luxury of time, then we suggest you opt for acrylic or charcoal paintings. The artwork can be finished within 2-3 days because the paints will dry instantly. Oil paintings will typically need 10-11 days for drying, post which we can ship it to you.
Can I choose a background for my painting?
Yes! We do it at no extra cost. We offer two options. If you would like us to pick a suitable background, we are happy to do so or alternatively you can send in another photo as background. When you place your order you will see a comment text box which allows you to let us know of any changes you wish to have done to your photo including the background.
On the website you show the size as 12x16 inches but I would like a 16x12 inches. What should I do?
When we write 12"x16" we refer both to 16"x12" and 12"x16". If you send us a horizontal image, the item you'll receive will be horizontal. If you send a vertical photo, it will be vertical. If you prefer your vertical photo to be horizontally or the other way round please inform us about it in the comment section during the order process.
Pricing and Payments
Our paintings vary in cost depending on the chosen medium, size and framing method chosen.
The most complicated part of a painting are the subjects (people/pets). Painting the faces or detailed features from the photo is the most delicate task, and this takes considerable time. For this reason, we need to know the number of subjects in the painting, so that we are able to determine the complexity of the painting, and price it accordingly.
If your photo is of a house/vehicle/landscape please choose landscape as the type. When choosing to have people or pets painted, you will need to count the number of people or pets present. The number of subjects is tallied based on the number of people or pets present in the photo that you want painted and does not count background images such as houses, trees, cars or other buildings.
Go to our price page for further information.
Do you charge extra for modifications?
No, we don't charge extra. All modifications are free of charge.

3) Direct Bank Transfer: Please email us for our bank account details.

What is gallery wrap stretched?
A contemporary trend is hanging a canvas artwork without a frame, by having the printed canvas image stretched around wooden stretcher bars. Gallery wrap means to allow for 1-2 inch color bleeds on all sides of the artwork. Since the sides of the artwork will have a finished edge, it allows the artwork to be displayed without a frame.
How should I take care of my artwork?
We would recommend the following suggestions to prolong the life of your artwork:
-
Avoid touching the canvas surface.
-
Do not hang your artwork in direct sunlight to avoid fading over prolonged exposure.
-
Do not hang your artwork in a hot or humid area, such as above an active fireplace or in a bathroom.
-
Feather dusting is recommended. Do not use water or cleaning agents on your artwork
